Const. Jian Liang served 12 years in the Canadian Armed Forces and nine years with Toronto Police.
And now he’s dead.
There was no police funeral, no 21-gun salute for a fallen troop member, or any media coverage.
This was not an easy column to write, but one that is needed if we are going to make sure no other police officers suffering from depression, mental-health problems or PTSD feels so helpless that they take their own life.
Liang did last week, and he’s not the first in this horrible pandemic year of 2020.
We have to make sure there are no more.
This begins with talking about what led the 36-year-old down this road and how the system can learn from it.
